Your post is a bit confused; you seem to be mixing up the two games. The symptoms you describe sound like Dreamfall, not The Longest Journey (which is the previous game in the series). Dreamfall is almost always found as 1DVD (with no patches at all); although in the US it was released as 6CDs (with one patch available; definitely not 1.61 though). Assuming that you really are experiencing a problem with Dreamfall, what you need to do is to go to and follow the second set of instructions (for 'versions before 5.5 - how to update protection drivers?' You might as well think of 'Dreamfall: The Longest Journey' simply as 'Dreamfall', the last part is just to let people know it's a sequel of sorts to TLJ (Don't worry, it can be played as a standalone game).
